If I Were An Elephant
If i were an elephant,
I hope i would be free.
To roam the Sub-Sahara,
And westwards to Mali.
But freedoms fraught with danger,
By mans ability.
To hunt big game for pleasure,
Or kill for ivory.
Now if i were the last one,
Would mankind mourn for me.
If i were an elephant,
In a circus i could be.
Performing tricks for children,
Going down on bended knee.
No danger from the hunter,
Just vile, captivity.
Locked inside a metal cage,
A life of drudgery
Now if i were the last one,
Would mankind mourn for me.
If i were an elephant,
That's carved from ivory.
A piece of perfect splendour,
A relic since, antiquity.
That's placed upon a pedestal,
For all the world to see.
But real beauty is the elephant,
I'm just it's effigy.
Now if i were the only one,
What would mankind pay for me.
