Author's Notes: This poem, "Ich weiss schon, was du meinst," is the expression in the German language for "I do know what you mean." I used this particular expression from the German as stylistic technique for enhancing the lead-off and ultimate message of this free verse poem. I just happen to be the kind of poet who believes in the use of certain words, phrases, or aphorisms, at times, from a foreign language in some poems and themes I undertake -- depending on the subject -- in order to enliven and maximize the quality and aura of the English words used in some poems to better convey the theme and message of them to the reader. I guess in this sense, I harken back to the days of the likes of Eliot, Pound, Keats, Shelley, Heine, and others who understood the power and evocative force of foreign words or expressions in some of their greatest works. The theme I touch on in this particular write concerns the quintessential importance that "Love," "Fire," and "Passion" play as base force elements and emotions which in any relationship can be variable, but at the same time, are paramount in strengthening the surety and quality of commitment between two people in love. In my view, this is what enables successful relationships to ultimately stand the test of time. Nothing will ever be perfect in this life, but this is something that gives all of us as human beings a better notion to strive for. This is my message here with this particular write.
