I Wish
I pray this letter finds you well
As your last, veiled something I couldn’t tell
Perhaps your wish
Has given meaning to that final kiss
Which I still remember well
Your last letter even recounting our smell
Oh how I clutched it with zeal
Those memories that linger, I feel
Though; even now
That parting kiss; it remains
but a crease to my brow
Oh how I wish we’d remain lovers…
Perhaps this wish, it still hovers
In this room, long after you left
Perhaps it sits by my side
As I pen these thoughts, to which we are tied?
Oh I how I still see your shadow
As you laughed by my window
Cupping the small swell of your child
To another man oh so – reviled?
Perhaps time has stripped the flesh from this wish
And all that remains is just that –
A wish…
Though I do long to re-visit, that final kiss
I wish…
