On my personal cross of pain I hang Suspended between earth and sky Reality and make believe There I hang There I cry I thirst I thirst For pure love I thirst For lasting passion I thirst for joy of contentment I thirst I thirst There at the foot of my cross they watch those who feel my tears, my friends those who show their true faces, my foes those who are too afraid to reach out, my acquaintances those who wait for the end, my family I thirst I’m dying of thrist There you are the one who put me on this cross the one who drove in the nails of betrayal who crowned me with thorns instead of kisses There you are I look down at you I thirst and you press to my lips what cannot satisfy vinegar instead of water I let it run out of my lips as I turn my head and cry at this final insult I thirst I thirst and you h e a r a death sigh escaping from parched and cracked lips as my heart breaks and the earth quakes you take in cooling sips as the blood d r i p s angels c r y watching me D I E O F T H R I S T Eileen Manassian Inspired by Emile Pinet’s Poem: Unbearable Thirst PS...I do not wish to offend. I hope this is not considered sacrilegious. I am in no way diminishing Christ's sacrifice on our behalf. He died of a broken heart...a heart that was filled with love...He died from an overabundance of love for those who did not love Him. We die from a lack of love from those who should love us. It's sad.

"Love, passion, contentment" things that all sane people crave, "thirst for". And in their place we are given betrayal, pain. A heart that was once full of love broken and empty. All that remains is the need with no hope of succour. I do not Know that ultimately this premis is true I think that "a lack of love from those who should love us" is a sympton rather than a cause. I know that it is lack of love of self that drives all our negative interactions with others. Be safe my Enchantress. xxxxx

Shane, you have hit on the heart of the matter. Often we are unable to accept love because of our own brokenness. I do fully agree with you on that. It is a sad think when we cannot value ourselves aright. Thank you for your love visit, and the lovely words that you gift me with. Hugs

I appreciate the artistry, it is said that each of us must bear our own cross. I do wonder if comparing our suffering with that of our Savior is appropriate, they are incomparably different. In your poem there is the thirst for love and that thirst can be fully satisfied by the one who occupied the cross and who is now an eternal living spring. I appreciate the disclaimer, I know your heart is in the right place.

I know, Richard. That is why I put the disclaimer on my I Thirst poem. There is NO WAY that any pain we could POSSIBLY suffer could compare to his...and yet, he experience the pain of rejection, betrayal, disloyalty, and every thing possible in our human spectrum, for He became ONE of us. Thanks for your visit and thoughts.

Although we of strong hearts know the agony of abuse and neglect, we must not let our love die. For having faith in the goodness of our hearts we survive, and love well Eileen. Your suffering is your measure of real love, as it is for us all. A poem of profound moral and imagery...J.A.B.

Thank you for visiting me, Justin. I'm done four classes. I have one to go. I'm not sure what to write on this piece. Some thirst is beyond quenching...and one must carry that to the grave. Life is not ideal...I've come to terms with that. I know I'm in no way an ideal person...so why should I expect that of others. I appreciate the visit.

You nailed this one! Capturing the agony of the cross, the absence of love, separation . . . a crucified love. Cruel and bitter is he the gall that touch your lips instead of the sweet dew of love. I wonder . . . how would you write the flip side of this -- resurrection love? I wonder? This is a powerful poem which I dearly love . . . deep, painful, and true. Much love and light LO

Yes, it can be gall, David. Love not reciprocated is bitter, indeed. Thanks for the lovely visit. A resurrection poem....That would be a delight. Any ideas? Hit me up...let's talk. Thanks for the visit. Hugs

You have eloquently defined your acceptance of God and His Son Jesus. A sad display of emotions as one is led upon a trail of hurtful moments lodged within the author's thoughts, each encased as a dagger within a faithful heart. Emile. #7

I was very touched by your poem, Emile. That is the kind of love that should exist between lovers. It is a beauty. Thank you for the inspiration. Agape love...God's love never fails. Bless you.

My sweet Charmaine. He knows our hearts and our struggles. He knows why we stray. He knows the unmet needs. He offers healing if you accept. Rebellion can last for a time, but His love will endure. Thank you for your heartfelt sentiments. Hugs

Thanks ever so much, Paul. SO good to have you here. I'm struggling...really struggling this semester. I have a heavier load and am a bit discouraged. I'm often tired and don't have as much time to visit my poet friends. :( I'll be around to you soon. Four classes to go today!!! I'm here to have my love cup filled before tackling it all. Hugs
