I Heard You the First Time
I turn on the telly to hear the news,
just wanting to find out how the world goes.
Tho I don’t mind hearing the expert’s views,
or the weatherman’s forewarning of snows.
But it’s read over and over again,
and everyone declares ‘we heard it first’.
Repeated at four, five, nine, six, and ten,
over and over each day, it’s the worst.
Would finding something new be such a sin?
Webster says news is of current events,
not the same story again, and again,
under the guise of ‘news’, it’s a pretense.
Of our three hundred million, can’t you find
Some different stories to challenge my mind?
