A smile the mask we live behind,
The radiance makes the world blind.
With a nod and a grin it's okay,
And inquisitions all fade away.

A facade of deception conceived,
Fooling one's self till it's believed.
Hopelessness weeps a thousand tears,
Soulful eyes mascara smears.

And when a harlequin mask slips,
Razzle dazzle with quirky quips.
So others can peek from behind,
Masks of their own design.

How well we hide behind the façade of a smile.........and no one sees who and what we really are or much truth here. ps........thank you very much for my placement in the sonnet contest. I loved reading Emily Dickinson re-created by all the entries.. Nicely done!
