Grassland
An eagle soars above green crested waves
Of prariegrass riding on midsummer rays
An oasis of trees in the open grassland
With more life to show than is shown on one hand
For little is seen but a breath here or there
From a bird or a fox to the small browning hare
A thundercloud sits out upon the horizon
With a roar seldom heard since the days of the bison
A wind welcomed in but soons settles down
Stirring the heads of the grass all around
A sparrow takes flight to head to a place
Bathed in the glow of the warm suns embrace
From blue to dark black the sky will soon change
Bringing a rest to the day of the range
