Governments Of Passion

My naive heart once pulsed fiercely with unhesitating Hope,
I saw Beauty stretching out forever, forever stronger;
Yet, now, my chest just heaves, as though against an all-too-tight rope,
Beauty's Promise appears hollow-cheeked, I can stare no longer.

Greed and Indifference have stole-off to Vegas to elope,
Watch them consummate on-screen, ugly orgasm will linger,
On heart-shaped bed, Governments Of Passion's played-out, the Lovers mope,
Cost of their surging's accounted for by gold 'round their finger.

I'm left staggering, arythmic, in this gloom trying to cope,
My vision faltered at such sight, so many weak with hunger;
It's telling, my frail beat, a heart that once pulsed fiercely with Hope,
As now, all I see's Beauty's starved faces, grown ever younger.
