Good Poetry

Good poetry is deeply felt, is clear and musical -- not muddy and confused, not inept and thoughtless; not mere dumb prattle. A poet must shape language to his special needs, understand its proper uses, harness its power and, above all, use it to display, to celebrate, to glory in his own innate creative spark.

Well said, Leo. I appreciate good poetry primarily for its use of language more than anything else. I use rhyme for humorous verse, free verse or blank verse for serious. Thank you for reading Humpty Dumpty. / M

Uh oh, I suppose some of mine might feel confused, Leo.:( We do "shape language", but in doing so it isn't always understood. This one though, is "Good Poetry" cause you are shooting from the hip. Things to ponder, thank you for sharing! Mikki
