Gold

'And I want to be free When my heart is made from gold And forgiveness seems too bold I still find it in my heart To say, "I love you." When my heart is made from gold And the hurt is just too bold I still find it in my heart To say, "I love you."' -"Heart of Gold" - Birdy Your selfish love taught me humility Your downfall, brought forth fluidity To an otherwise confusing course Along pathways long trod for generation's security You took the first step to destruction, In order to guide me to back away I pulled you back, searing my skin And you cursed my prudence, The very prudence your actions taught Now you green with envy, Sifting my love with your negligence With umbilical urgency, I am, from you... me And you, Twisting and turning in the blood that cries to make you see, You are nothing but gold to me

I'd go for platinum myself ... just as long as the man isn't fool's gold. There's a back and forth feeling to this romance ... I can't decide if things are shifting backwards into caution or forwards into passion. Your "umbilical urgency" was the winner for me, though. Gotta cut the cord before it's too late ... feed yourself with love, rather than being spoon-fed. Let your voice be heard, Laura.

Yesh, it's a song by one of my favorite artists (Birdy). I was so obsessed with the song for a while. ^.^ Now I'm obsessed with her new song "Beautiful Lies", it's very melancholic and lovely. Thank you for the sweet comments and for looking at some of my older posts. It truly means the world to me! <3 ~Laura

The only part I was confused about was "Heard of Gold - Birdy" ... is your first stanza actually apart of the poem, or is it from a song?

I like the sincere concern and love displayed int his write here..."umbilical urgency" speaks of familial relation...The lessons we learn from someone's actions will always be seared in the mind of the younger, I should know, I went through the same stage. Your write illustrates these and more. You, my friend, are a poetess of many shades and colors, and oh how much I admire your work. hugs!

Thank you for noticing that bit, clever Kim. Yes, we sure do learn from our older siblings, the good and the bad. Sometimes, even the younger ones are looked up to. ~Laura

your experience at all. I am over projecting my own experience onto yours. But you see, your poetry is very thought provoking and rooted to deep portions of your mind. I can't help but get a bit caught up in the sentiments and try to understand what you are saying to the best that I can due the the experiences that I have had. Can't do anything else. I do wish you well and am sending you a pulse of good. It's being radiated out this very moment. Can you feel it?

Now, I am an OCD person (no doubt) and I may have been down this sort of road. It may be a different fork or a different road altogether. However, I have let music cement certain feelings in the past when it seemed to me it reflected what I was thinking almost perfectly. I can't say that this was good or bad, it was just an experience. Alright it was bad. It kept me looking the the rear view mirror instead of looking forward for a period of time. This probably has nothing to do with...

Thank you for sharing dear.. so glad you decided to give Birdy's song a listen... one of my favorites by her... of course there's "Terrible Love" by her, that inspired my all-time favorite poem I have ever written: 'Dead Spiders Weave.' I've got a recording of the poem if you're interested...you say that my poetry is rooted to deep portions of my mind... so true. Sometimes the heart screams and very few can hear it as I do... you are one of those few-I know that... ~Laura

One of the things I love about all of this is that I get to go to youtube and listen to a song and singer I never listened to before (remember I am of a different generation). So thanks for that. Birdi has an interesting style. I can see why you like her work. I think the music only reinforces the fact that your memories surrounding all of this are going to stick with you (no matter what). But you are a real sweetheart and have the feelings you have, and so it will be.

My sister's tempestuous, rebellious spirit is what shaped me growing up...she got me growling at atrocities, and distrusting dark pitfalls. I always looked up to her. She wasn't perfect, but she was pure gold through and through, even at times when she did not see this in her... she faced danger with brevity I can only dream of. Through all of her mistakes, I have learned wariness, prudence, and how to love despite brutal bite. ~Laura

The mind pulls on the reins and whispers 'prudence', yet despite everything, it is the heart that has the last word. ~ Regards // paul
