Going the Distance
Once an eagle had a dream
To fly to a foreign land
An impossible task, yet it seemed
Was the one that was at hand
Although it was encouraged much
By the ones it did adore
Things bothered it like pessimism and such
It believed in failure for sure
But thankfully that sun-filled day
The news came to be
That the eagle could finally fly away
And they were all filled with glee
But now months later some time has passed
And the eagle has learned the hard way
That the first step has been surpassed
Yet each day becomes more lonely and gray
It looks away from the sunset’s rays
Toward the eastern coast
And hopes and prays for much betters days
At what it longs for the most
Yet, the eagle plans to go back to where it was raised
And it holds its head up with no resistance
Dreaming it could one day be amazed
At its chance to be going the distance
