Glitter In the Sky

At six, he wildly chased the fireflies thinking these shiny bugs bits of gold slung down from the stars for him to hold he prayed that God would find him a net hoping soon to catch a firefly pet Glitter flies were up so far mom gave him a Mason jar there were a thousand million bugs better than those slick, slimy slugs watching him, his mom's heart felt a tug At eighteen, he lay on the grass near his girl gazing at the starry night there too were his flickering fireflies' lights this young man loved those lightning bugs his girl-- bored-- only desired his hugs At twenty-one, his mother sat on the porch her boy once said “A firefly held a little torch." now, the Mason jar sat in the cupboard her son, now a man, moved toward the light while fighting in the war She gazed out at the boy's front yard since he was gone, living on was hard the fireflies flittered, glistening in the sky heartbroken...she tried so hard not to cry way above her, a firefly lit his lamp of love-- oh my! © a year ago, Carol Davis

Great read! Oh could that glitter of youth, not be glared out by the dawn of a reality sun! Seventy years old, and still have not found a satisfying answer.
