Give It All To Me I saw a man on a bench, we were sitting in a park. We spent the whole day talking until long after dark. It started with a question. He asked what do you see? I looked at him and almost cried. He said give it all to me. I told him of my childhood, like water on the sands. That's right when I noticed. The holes in both his hands. Then I told him of my youth and the trouble I'd been in. When I glanced up at him. He gave a knowing grin. I looked deep into his eyes not understanding yet. He said son this ain't the first time that you and I have met. I saw you in your mothers womb I've been here all your days. I know everything about you, I've loved you for always I've seen every tear you cried, I've heard the prayers you prayed. Times when you pushed me away, I didn't leave I stayed. I was the reason more than once. That you got your heart broke. Times that you could not hear me or the words to you I spoke. The times I saw you suffer. I helped you make it through. Because everything that you've endured. I have suffered too. You've yet so very much to learn. But one thing you must see. Good bad or indifferent. Give it all to me. Through my tears I bowed my head. My eyes were on the street. Before He turned to walk away I saw holes in both His feet. Gone before I knew it. My life is now all changed. It seems my whole outlook is completely rearranged. Every injury I've suffered, I've forgiven all of them. If you ask me how I did it. I gave it all to Him. Edwin C Hofert
