From My Kitchen Window
FROM MY KITCHEN WINDOW
I stood at my kitchen window
Waiting for the coffee to brew
I watched with awestruck wonder
At the things God's creatures do
A cardinal of deep crimson red
Perched on a snow covered limb
Seemingly oblivious to everything
That was going on around him
A squirrel racing hurriedly
Back to its nest in the oak tree
A young inexperienced redtailed hawk
Hoping a mouse to see
A rabbit so cautiously watching
The hawk waiting silent and still
I looked, and there was a cougar
Slinking stealthily over the hill
I wondered what was going to happen
How this moment in nature would go
When a frightened deer broke cover
And interrupted the entire show
Now all the animals are scattered
The scene is gone in a blink
But nature as viewed from my kitchen
Is wonderful -- don't you think
