Freddy Gray

Who is Freddy Gray? Don't answer that Just another man who got in the way Found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time like when Harriet came out the woods, saw a group of clans men and went the other way. Just a man too far removed from slavery now facing the same brutality. Used to be, a man would cower under a white gaze get home and still wouldn't feel safe now we fear no one, not even "Halt" won't even flinch. See we believe it's our right to fight and not fear another's sight. I tend to agree, we should fear no man, but the devil lives in all of us. They can no longer advertise our bodies in trees, but fraternities still sing songs about it. That's why you move without provocation, speak without intoxication Yes. They did good pulling the wool over Freddy's eyes he couldn't see that gaze of despise. And if he did, we've become oblivious to it. Too far removed from yester year's whispers. Too far removed from what we did to stay alive. Now I'm not saying bow down and be submissive but our folks taught us how to circumvent the bull crap. Freddy, how can we stop this? Don't let them do to you, what they did to me. No bullet in the back no rope in a tree no misdiagnosed injury they find after they put you in a van No sir. Yes sir. Hands raised, as a matter of fact don't even come around these here parts "but that's where I live" and that's where they hunt. Imagine how it would be, if they had no where to prey? Freddy Gray, the one who got away, I can hear em joking as the van drove away.
