Florida Nature
This land of sand where brown pelicans glide
and herons spear fish in shallow marsh
Where white egrets harvest insects that hide
and summers are hot, sometimes harsh
Where armored alligator eyes pierce water's surface
and rattle snakes lay quietly in deadly wait
A land of movement you must embrace
To see its natural beauty illuminate
To walk its beaches and feel their breeze
See sunsets of golden red, as osprey fish,
then glide away with a gentle ease
To dive again for the food they miss
This ravaged land from nature's course
Where seeds from palms hang like grapes,
then fall to ground from hurricane force,
as winds blow hard across vast landscapes
To sit beneath its open skies
and find a peace in eagle's flight
To see them fly and hear their cries,
above my head for my delight
This Florida where I came to roam,
is now a land, I call home
contest Florida Nature
