Firefly
Laying down on my back, staring up into the night sky
My mind empty and without thought
Unsuspecting, I saw it fly by
At first I thought I thought I imagined it
But it made its presence known by encircling me
Almost as to deliver a message from afar
No fate or coincidence could distract, the nothingness surrounding me
It chose to come to rest on my hand
I embraced and welcomed the company of something so delicate and supreme
My eyes appreciates its beauty; I could imagine a rainbow a of colours caught in its wings
Its light mesmerized me and reflected in my eyes
It brought a reflection of the magnificence of life and all its secrets.
The creature lightened the sky with its presence
I stared at it, longing to touch, but avoiding to break the trust of this insect that chose my company tonight
Happiness can be found in the seemingly unimportant appearances
The firefly came, a delicate, perfect creature
It brought a light, a distraction for a few precious moments and then, as subtle as it came, it disappeared
It took its light with it as it flew into the darkness of night, further and further away
I closed my eyes to memorize this joyful, pleasant moment
I closed my eyes to always remember its beauty
I closed my eyes to be quietly thankful for the reminder of life, beauty and joy in the tiniest of gestures
