Feelings

It is so true that feelings fly And only for a moment stay, ‘Til song or memory has died, And time has washed them all away Like sunlight peeking over storm, They come so welcoming and warm, Before retreating to the clouds Where neither warmth nor light are found But as they fly and take their turn, Within our hearts, they sink and burn, In hopes their fleeting fire will leave Undying embers never to recede Alas, it’s true that feelings fade; They come and go without concern, Until our hearts are old and gray, And time has taught us what we could not learn.
