Fear Not You Writers!
I have made many friends here;
some young and some old,
some men and some women,
but all, I can call friends.
We may have differences,
but we all have a common tie.
It’s not necessarily our faith.
It’s not necessarily our orientation.
It’s not necessarily our love.
It is our need to express through poetry;
the bind that ties and the ties that bind.
We all have a human right
to express.
We all have feelings
that need to be expressed.
For these reasons, fear not you writers!
Fear not my friends!
Our words may not be those of others,
but their choice to read is theirs.
Therefore, our choice to write is ours.
Their choice to critique honestly
is also theirs,
but to direct hatred and animosity
is an outrage; a crime against humanity.
This too, may be their choice,
but it isn’t one of respect or dignity.
While we all have human right to express,
we also have the right to respect
and to be respected.
When insults or a message of hatred
or bigotry make their way through,
pray for the sender
in what ever faith you can pray,
for they obviously need guidance
and friendship, as we.
Lastly, use the blind opinion of
the chooser, the abuser.
Let their anger be a foundation
for your next work.
