Fear Not

We live in constant fear of death Yet her shadow lurks in every Little deed of our everyday life, In walking and in writing poetry. The food you eat so gaily may be laced With some life-nibbling noxious compound, And if it be nourishing and clean and safe It still may choke you to the ground. The evening walk you enjoy With such unhurried strides, May be cut short by an oncoming van And anon find yourself in Hades. The blissful night with your beloved May be your last note of breath, The sweet ecstasy heights may snap The strings that divide life and death. The jetted honeymoon flight to distant shores Is the sweetest moment after the vows, Yet, motivated by your chosen nearness, The heavens may call you home so close. So Live your turn to the final count, Fear not what is everywhere; Live without the fear of short expiry; Without the littlest ounce of care.
