Father's Day

Father's Day He was sitting on a park bench all alone. He was thinking - why he had to be different from other kids. He didn't remember ever having a father. He couldn't understand why other kids had fathers and he didn't. He didn't have a father to watch him go play ball, or take him fishing. The rest of the kids were always talking about their fathers and all the fun they had with them. while the other kids went with their fathers he had to stay alone. He was looking up at the heavens and asked - why? All he remembered was his Mom always being with him. His father had abandon his Mom and him, when he was only a baby. He was still in school and at fifteen - he had found a part time job to help his Mother out. Today was Father's Day. He had gotten off early from work. He had bought a Father's Day card. He had a sad look on his face. At this time he got up and went home. His Mom gave him a hug and told him - dinner is ready. He smiled and gave her a hug and also the card and said - happy Father's Day Mom...

Luclla what a lovely poem and so sad for all those children who do not have their Dad's with them, as Peter said our grandson doesn't have his father in his life, but you couldn't get a better father to him than Peter, he adores him but he is one of the lucky ones and the best part is he lives with us and his Mum, so they are both lucky, great write my dear. Take care ...........Vera..............

Thanks Vera; Life is full of choices and sometimes we we don't make the right ones. Enjoy your grandson as long as you can, because they grow up quick. Blessings

Sorry forget to say, I know this is a sad poem, but you have done a fine job alone, and also this poem shows the beauty of how we do the best in this world no matter life is not always as we wish it!!!

You are right, but life is still good. We just have to play with the cards we were dealt in life.

When I read the title, I said oh nooo, another hallmark card! LOL But this, this is one your best poems, the ending would bring tears to anyone. So so beautiful, you have told this story so well, and the sentiments hold true, no mother or father, and even some who have a father and he is not there for them. Having seen someones smile, and you can pass that along, you have done a fine job!!!!!! hugs

No, it wasn't a Hallmark card - just one of many life's stories. I too don't remember my real Dad. He left when I was only three. I never saw him again, that is why to me my daughter is my treasure. Thanks for the nice comment.

This is so sad and heartfelt. It made me think of my youngest grandson. His dad passed away when he was 7. My daughter tries to be mom and dad, but there are some things she just cannot do.

this is so poignant. The mother was a very good one to be seen as his father figure as well. VERY touching and lovely poem, my friend.

I can really relate to this, because I never knew my father, either. But, my Mom cared for me and loved me as much as any father would have. I don't know where I would be without her.... This poem is beautiful and quite touching. Very well done, Lucilla!

Thank you so much Tim, but it wasn't a son - it was a daughter and she is the reason I live.

It is sad when men fail to meet their responsibility. They don't realize but they lose a big part of themselves by walking away.

It is very sad when this happens. There are good men in the world and I respect those that stay and raise their families.
