Faces of Loneliness
A horrid hollowness I confess, oh the empty nest,
viewed with sadness and no redress, oh the empty nest.
Years of doting, uplifting, caring once so full of joy
bring forth a gentleman of kindness, oh the empty nest.
dust covers
the desk in his room --
a closed door
The sun which rose with his laughter now has a solitary shine
sets on a mother’s loneliness, oh the empty nest.
If only my heart could return to the song of memory
not to tears, to the warmth of the child, oh the empty nest.
a cradle waits
not rocking yet --
silent phone
