Faces of Loneliness

A horrid hollowness I confess, oh the empty nest, viewed with sadness and no redress, oh the empty nest. Years of doting, uplifting, caring once so full of joy bring forth a gentleman of kindness, oh the empty nest. dust covers the desk in his room -- a closed door The sun which rose with his laughter now has a solitary shine sets on a mother’s loneliness, oh the empty nest. If only my heart could return to the song of memory not to tears, to the warmth of the child, oh the empty nest. a cradle waits not rocking yet -- silent phone

congrats on your win - I think this is an impressive poem, debbie, and it's spot on in its conveyance of loneliness, which of course is what this contest is all about...I like the subtle internal rhyme :)

I should not explain to you LOL I think the readers problem..if I was the reader & of course I was...as well as the author is MAN is seldom seen as PART of NATURE and haiku's are supposed to be about nature. The verse discribes how a persons BED is like a NEST, as is a womb a nest, as are the bedding similiar to the soft bits of debris birds line their nest with for their young. BIG HUGS sillies..I was metaphorically STTTTTTREETTCHIIIIIIING!!
