Her indifference was merely a facade
coquettish glances hidden by her fan
to see the real agenda wasn't hard
she sent out clues like only women can.
Champagne in hand she gazed across the floor
half listening to her chaperone, head cocked
but scanning the Lieutenant by the door
to meet and hold his glance, when their eyes locked.
Continuing to feign indifference,
the hand she'd dealt not willing to play yet
sadly for all of her perseverance
that night would be one she would not forget.
For as she would be told and has seen since
Lieutenant only had eyes for the Prince.
