Do You Understand the New Father's Fright

I hate how you hurt her You with your brains inside out gray fragile thing. You look like a grossly oversize condom mostly wrung out. Slap you and hit make you cry. Your silence and stare skin of your bones. Cry baby, Cry baby cut open our hearts and scream yourself in.

In 1971 I held our 4 seconds old daughter in the palm of my hands, she was so tiny and hardly cried at all . It was a very scary and magical and wonderful and loving and caring time all mixed into one everlasting memory that I have and no one else does. Lovely graphic work Dan. God Bless. D.

Dave, you understand, you are a father! There is not much we fathers can claim as uniquely ours, but this is only ours. Mothers have much more; feeling movement within, feeding of their milk, pain, and so on, but we do have this crazy moment. Thank you for your kind words.

I like your prospective view never thought of it that way. Hard to see your wife going through pain to deliver your child, but the pain only last for a little while, then it is forgotten like it never existed when you see your newborn in your arms. :)eve

Eve, When I first saw birth, it was crazy different than how I thought, especially the matted hair when the baby's head first crowned, so unexpected, so raw. And then the baby looks not alive, and then the nurse smacks her, and then that perfect ehyahhh! She is alive! And she is ours! Hallelujha!

I read what you said below to another poet to understand this one better. Yes, it is not a pleasant sight at all!! I do not know why guys are so involved with the whole process, but that is the new way! My daughter had even her in-laws plus me and hubbie in the room as it happened. Good grief. Great title you gave this.

I wouldn't want to have missed it for sure, but it was scary, ending with soul rocking, sobbing emotion, the closest thing I imagine to the creation of new Love... Thank you for reading!
