A cute guy called James once asked me on a date He rang me the next day said could he bring his mate A blind date – oh I’d see if my best mate Jen would come It might be a disaster then again it could turn out to be fun Jen and I got ready and wore our pretty dresses Make up was applied and we brushed our lovely tresses We met the guys in a bar and how my face fell No thought of their attire but at least they didn't smell! James wore a white shirt with buttons sewn on with different cotton He hadn't made an effort any chance of romance was soon forgotten I turned around and I had a good look at his best mate Neil He had a massive scar across his face it made me want to squeal In the past he been in trouble and had got into a brawl Some one had slashed his face – not a good thing at all We sat and had a drink and I looked at my mate Jen Had hoped for romance – but it wouldn't be with them Jen and I went off to the loo together (the way that ladies do) Tried to hatch an escape plan, the lads didn't have a clue Went back to the bar and soon it was time to leave Hoped they wouldn't try to kiss us, the idea made us heave We hurried out of the bar our bus we didn't want to miss Jen and I climbed the steps of the bus together to avoid a kiss Sat on the bus and laughed at our awful night Never heard from James again - our chemistry wasn't right! A fun tale on Poetry Soup of Jan and Jen flying the coop. This really is a true story from when I was about 18 years old – the most hilarious thing was the two of us trying to get up the steps of the bus together and almost falling over eachother in the process! 2nd May 2015 Contest: –) The Pigeon who Flew the Coop Tammy Reams

I know some people think the pictures detract from the actual poems - but when they compliment the poem so perfectly I have to disagree. I was adamant I wouldn't use pictures but I have been forced to eat my words - and for the cynics - I don't think a picture does hide a bad poem! Hugs jan xx

Truly Nandita there was no poetic licence here it is as it actually happened lol - seeing this guy with a scar made me think I had made a big mistake if James could hang around with a guy like him! oh the innocence of youth lol :-)Hugs jan xx

There really is no poetic licence in this one Ilene it is as it happened - the most hilarious thing was the two of us trying to get up the steps of the bus together - it was only one door width and we were stumling about lol:-) Hugs jan xx

It was far from funny at the time Emile - the buttons were sewn on with different coloured cottons and it wasn't a trend at that time and the shirt hadn't seen an iron lol and as for his friend Neil as soon as I saw him I knew it was a big mistake - never double dated again lol:-) Hugs jan xx
