Deeper
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
you let go for the first time
paddling away
for the first time.
swim back to safety
in your fathers arms.
then go again
knee deep.
stomach deep.
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
chest deep.
shoulder deep.
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
neck deep.
head deep.
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
like a commitment,
a contract,
a binding term.
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
it swells up,
around you.
unexpected.
flailing.
panicking.
suffocating.
trying to find the arms
you thought
were safe.
but now.
you are old,
grown up.
on your own.
drowning.
as you get deeper,
the consequences grow.
