Darkness Falls
DARKNESS FALLS
darkness falls upon the strong and meek
both need the light of the moon and stars
and the coyotes howl for more and more
through the forested trees near the stream
behind doors - illusions of candles and lamps
soft cushions, subsistence, safety under lock and key
should the winds howl and splinter the wood,
shatter the illusion of four walls and floor,
and even the score between man and beast -
would the meek grow strong with disheveled knees,
would the heart of the strong become meat?
