Cold Winter Mornings

When dawn rubs his sleepy eyes
To wake and there is
Frost upon the ground,
Jonathan, the farm boy tumbles
Out of his warm snug bed
And icicles hang
From the roof brown.

The latch feels cold
And numb in the dark.
Grey light creeps in
Mingling, with the dimness within.
Behind it rushes in
The cold air
Freezing the pale skin.

Putting the kettle to boil,
He shakes his stubborn
Legs that won't stir.
Warm breath on his fingers he blows,
Picks the milking pail
And to the barn he goes.

Not trying to be too personal BUT you seem to be exquisite at capturing country life with this rhyme and so many others...are you REALLY a COUNTRY GAL AT HEART? Love how u drew the details on this country boy's legs that wouldn't stir, his fingers numb, and how he picks up the milking pail as tho he is sleepwalking to do his mandated tasks! No one said you had to milk the cows why you were AWAKE, right?...great writing! Love, Gwendolen

Oh how I have missed my dearest Gautami. I wrote a poem for you...You must read it...Rajashani Puppets....this will have to do til we meet in India one day.....I have been wondering how you are and your dear lil one. In your poem dawn is a powerful character of influence upon all...I am only warmed by the boiling kettle...and then back to the barn he goes...gorgeous. Love, Gwendolen
