Butter On the Popcorn

I reckon that everyone makes changes in their life --- Some are major and others not so big Some we carefully plan and others just happen Some changes are as sudden as a flash of Lightening While others take place slowly with the passing of time Some changes bring new people ----------- into our lives While others Take those we love Away Some changes we can see coming While others we must look back To even realize that they happened Sometimes we make one change ------------------ And another just seems To hop on board All by itself Years ago I made a choice in my life To stop Being a drug addict And to become a rehabilitating Drug addict And so many changes ------------ Have taken place In my life ------------- Looking back I now realize --------- That I have gone from a person -- Who used to start each day Wondering ????????????????????????? Who will I get mine from today To a Person Who now ask? I wonder who needs my help today? And everything else ------------------- Is just Butter on the Popcorn

MJ, What a great work on the importance of gaining control of our lives. Beautifully written. I'm so glad you are a survivor. You might enjoy "Unicorn," because it is about the need to take control of our destinies. (I hope Robin Gass enjoys the dedication. She has inspired me to brevity, and that says a lot because I write novels, too.) Carolyn

meetings, AA, CA, and NA. He is getting out in a couple of weeks, he's getting his own place.I only hope and pray that he will continue to go to those meetings and stay strong and follow the path which God has chosen for him. I commend you for all you have accomplished, you should be very proud of yourself. He told me he didn't want to bring us into his lifestyle like that, I wish he had, maybe we could have helped him, nonetheless I am grateful for this second chance we have..God Bless*Tyesha

Beautiful read, Your accomplishments shine through so beautifully..It takes a strong person to make the changes you have and overcome so much, I can't imagine what you went through..My family and I had been estranged from my brother for 11 years, he called us yesterday. He is inside the V.A. hospital in Los Angeles County..He said he has been clean and sober for 16 months..I thank God for that.I am so proud of him, he had hit rock bottom but God brought him back as he did you.He now goes to 3 ~

Isn't amazing how we have the capacity to change another person's own life.....?? Only if we recogconize the challenge, and make a conscience decision to be an example, a mentor, or just a friend. Well said, love the sentiment in this poem, my friend. ~ Love, Carrie

Wow - you did such a wonderful free verse here! Your story is one that should give you great pride, as it showers inspiration on all of us who read it. Not many can climb above and beyond the 'normal' person, but you have, because you are! No stopping you now! So enjoy that popcorn and add some extra butter! Beautiful write. Love, Shar

Michael, you have so much to be proud of, the choices you made at a younger age led to the choices you made when older. I love how you now start your days. An amazing write. Michael
