Bright-Eyed and ---

A squirrel with an acorn clenched
Between his tiny teeth
Ran past me to some shrubbery
And hid himself beneath.

He looked so cute it made me think
Suppose he was a rat;
I wouldn’t like it half as much
In nearby habitat.

Though both are rodents, in this case
Some prejudice prevails,
For charming or repellent seems
To rest upon their tails!

    Bats and rats and tiny mice can give us all the creeps. But funny how a diseased bird is pleasing when it peeps.

    Ain't it the truth - if they lost the fluffy tail we would call in a pied piper to rid us of them as well.

    Oh yes - I'd love to pet a squirrel and run from a rat. Some say deer are rodents on stilts. love you Ilene, Kathy

    This poem was just wonderful, and it is so very true. All animals are beautiful. It's not their fault if they spread disease, blame nature....Peter
