Boots and a Ledbetter
sitting on my porch
sniffing the bittersweet
chilled heat
in paradise, california
autumn is in full swing
too cold for converse
too warm for snow shoes
meet in the middle
i lift my nose and smile
the only place left
in america
still burning chimneys
its like time stopped
at the breakfast club
or maybe a little later
like 1993
when every youth was yelling
and pretty loud too
yelling at all who hurt them
through their powerful music
i turn my radio switch to on
i smile and lean back
in the grass in the freezing heat
and i smell
also i listen
sh...quiet down world...
yellow ledbetters on...
