Old and arcane, bittersweet, deep hidden secrets,
quiescent they repose, serene and tranquil and still;
until they come creeping flamboyant, vivid and bedazzling,
luscious, sweet and seductive, tactile, tangible and loud.
Quintessence is their essence in pure raw pith,
my soul the intercessor with ambivalent mingled feeling;
oh, my pen the immolation, the sacrifice, the ritual offering,
that each day gives up bleeding words that flow to paper.
