Birds Are Not Buddhists

BIRDS ARE NOT BUDDHISTS I went all Buddhist after watching Carradine’s “Kung Fu” Don’t hurt or kill anything even if it wants to kill you Fed crumbs to birds and scraps to squirrels Then wife screeched as she stepped on some beetles And she saw another creeping nearer She wanted to stomp it cos it’d scared her I said no let’s free it out the window Carefully picked it up and smoothed its wings below Opened window to allow freedom, Carradine would be proud. It flew happily away - but there was a dark cloud: Of a sudden a bird swooped down really fast And swallowed my beetle down in mid-flight as breakfast. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . *This is another in my series “Beetles and Other Obsessions”
