Bicycles For Two

I watched them spread the checkered cloth To picnic in my yard; Two bicyclers resting from the pace Of pedaling so hard. My Susie went to greet them. I saw them share their lunch With this sweet dog who wagged her tail And matched them, munch for munch. They didn’t see me peeping From my window by myself. They didn’t know the memories I had tucked upon a shelf, The memories that came tumbling down From that tall hiding place. They brought with them a picture of My lost love’s laughing face, Of bicycles of the long ago When we would, just as they, Go pedaling with a picnic lunch On Spring’s first sunny day.

I love it, .........who could ever forget those bikes from our young summer days! Part of the best childhood memories were spent pedaling in the wind! Nicely said, Joyce!

Joyce...what an interesting perspective to write for this contest...there were 3 judges who all liked the nostalgic feel to this poem. The rhyming was so perfect and the story came full circle like none other! So lovely a write. Congrats to you, Joyce. :) Gwendolen

this is wonderful. If you stuck the word May in here, it could even double as a may memory poem!!!

oh you peeping joyce! just kidding. I like how the memories came tumbling down - really gave it the emotional element after the visual and then tied in again at the end :)

Oh, Joyce, this is so beautiful! I love the way you stay hidden and allow the bikers to take those memories off the shelf. Just try to find comfort in these memories, dear. I know how hard it is to see loving couples all around you when your love has left this world. First place, I predict. Hope the sponsor feels the same way. Love, Carolyn

I've just watched a movie Joyce, where a young teen yelled up at an elderly woman who was peering at the new lovers, to mind her own. And that was the stories writers fault ! He should have read this delight first, and the movie would have got an extra star ! *smiles* Beautiful write dear poet ! Have a wonderful week....much love, james
