Beneath the Surface
What's beneath the surface of us all?
What is it that makes us who we are?
We feel love, we feel hate
We feel joy, and we feel pain
Each of us is unique
But it seems so hard to see
what's beneath the surface
... Underneath it all
We take our pain
to makeus strong
We take our hate
to right the wrong
It may not take long
Or it may take your life
to figure out what's beneath the surface
Beneath the surface is a child
Who's hopes and dreams can run wild
Where the impossible does not exist
But as we age
With the dawn of a new day
A piece of that child is lost
Forever alone and eternally forgotton
And with all this, I can only desire
That we can reach inside
And find that hidden child
Beneath the surface
Life is but a race
Slow and steady
like the turtles' pace
Understan it is a gift
To live as you do
For there are others who
Know more than they wish to
But beneath the surface
There's so much to be found
What's beneath the surface
I cannot say
I could ponder it
Each and every day
I know, and you know
Though there is much to know
There is so much more that we don't know
For beneath the surface
Is a complex system
With so many things
I can hardly list them
Beneath it all
No matter what you say
There is a little hope
And it helps to get through every day
There is a little child
filled with wonder
To find what's beneath the surface
You need not but to look inside
And find the answers are buried within you
There's light... and darkness too
But that is who you are are
to deny it, would be untrue
So, what's beneath the surface
May be hard to see
but if you look deep inside
maybe.... just maybe, you will see all you can be
