Being Near You

I cannot be near you. You look the same. You behave the same. But my spirit remembers. It hunkers down. It protects itself. Arms bent above it's head. It remembers the feeling of being battered emotionally. I cannot be near you.

I felt myself sink into my chair reading your poem Jean it really is quite disturbing the picture of abuse you paint in so few words.. stand tall rise above him Jean. Let your daughter know how proud you are of her and don't let him spoil your day in any way. Hugs Jan xx

When our youngest child was three years old, he announced he had been with an old girlfriend. No apology. Just something he felt I should know. I left for two nights. I went back to the three daughters I loved, but never to him. We split ten years later Jan.

Hi Daniel. Thank you as always for stopping by. This one is for SO's latest contest. It disturbed me to write it, believe me. My X husband and I are due to attend our daughter's graduation cermony next month. We have not spoken in 4 years. I am filled with the same dread as hearing his footstep on the staircase.
