I enjoyed the desciptive flashback to the day when one teacher taught every kid in town like on Little House. This proves a fun romp for me. Congratulations on your win in Nigel's PRIME-ary contest. Warm regards, John.

Wonderful write, Barbara! Those were the days when kids respected their teachers because they knew their teachers could beat the stuffing out of them if they got out of line. I don't condone abuse, but I do condone giving the rightful authority to people in charge. Donna

Barbara, such wonderful memories you evoke! Even tough Huck Finn would be dismayed by what takes place in school today. Nice verse - Carolyn

Weren't those the days when the teacher was allowed to hit the kids? Oh yeah, I had days like that as a kid LOL The imagery so clear, it's a wonderful write. Michael

Lordy, what I wouldn't give to be just a tad bit younger! LOL! Lunch boxes...mine was Batman...guess I'm dating myself, huh? Huck Finn, gotta love Mr. Clemens (aka Mark Twain)...blue crayons and hula hoops, Colorforms, Etch-A-Sketch, Razzle candies, Skittle Pool and all the games distributed from Milton Bradley. Oh, well...thanks for the memories, Barbara. A beautiful poem...PEACE AND HUGS, J.

Hi Sounds very much like my elementary school. It was a two roomer, with 4 grades to a room and one teacher. You have a very good entry here and a winner but do I count 12 syllables in the last line? Joyce
