Autumn of Life

Start Life is a bud that blossoms into a flower Then wilts in the sunlight, hour by hour Its fragrance diminishes, unable to spread Soon no petals remain to be shred As we walk into the evening of our lives We scan the years in our archives The day our first child was born Sweet as ever and blind to scorn She brought us ecstasy and joy Watched her grow healthy and coy She soon began to assert her wish In her choice of clothes and dish We fulfilled all the wishes we could After filtering out the bad from the good Her academics raised our expectations high We ne’er faltered in our efforts to comply Years later she was joined by a brother An introvert unlike her and mother He grew up in the shadows of an exuberant sister Steadily carving his niche without any glister Being younger, he was the object of our dote He completed his academics on a high note And flew abroad to earn more laurels Was ne’er particular about filial morals We encouraged the decisions they took Gave them every support by the book Each achievement made their expectations soar The appetite for success increased more and more The bud that blooms will eventually wilt Failure to succeed transforms into guilt Success, like carrot dangling on a bamboo The donkey behind, relentlessly pursue. End
