Autumn Nights

Oh Autumn, how I love your days Your brilliant multicolored sights But, I'm sorry that I just can't say The same thing about your nights. For your cold damp autumn nights Bring with them your autumn mists And within your mists dwell sights That I would just as soon resist. Those Painful sights that stab the heart From memories that wound the most Sights that have torn my life apart... Sights, that have long become ghosts. Those long since banished ghosts That dwell there within your mists Those ghosts that boast the most Of my bitter sentimental trysts. Some ghosts have anguished eyes Who in their sorrow point and glare And others who just drift quietly by Seem, as if they were impaired. Still others clutch at barren breasts While feeling some forgotten pain Entombed within their misty nests Waiting there, eternally in vain. I do try hard to not look or stare But sometimes I just can't resist Those ghosts that dwell out there Within your cold damp autumn mists. Oh Autumn, how I love your days Your warmth and brilliant sights But Oh sweet Lord, to Thee I pray Please save me from autumn nights! Timothy I. Brumley

Hi Timothy-- I really like the contrasts you give here for the autumn days & nights-- very vivid & stark differences between the two-- it sure is a very intriguing season, and you describe it here in a much deeper way-- and I am so sorry to hear about the cold hands that have come your way-- I do remember that stirring write about Violy-- I do think you speak the truth of Filipinas though ;) sorry, no one comes to mind right now, but I sure will pray that somebody comes your way :)

enjoyed reading this again....have missed seeing you on the soup. I have been away also. Are you in love?? I have just been busy with other things. Spring is not the time to be indoors.

You are right those autumn nights can get mighty cold with frost and chill to the bone, on the other hand the beauty in the colors of leaves during the day make up for it. God Bless phyl

This conjures up all kinds of visions of the autumn nights. Goes well with it being October and Halloween time too! Yes, I too have contrasting feelings about autumn. It's a very strange season, one of often sad nostalgia as well as awe at the beauty of nature!

Love the way you describe your contrasting emotions about autumn -- beautiful scenery during the days and ghosts of "sentimental trysts" that haunt at night. Beautiful poem, Timothy. Thanks for the congrats, but my poems usually make it through the first round and then are discarded. The first round is primarily for grammar, spelling and punctuation. Admin is not a fan for me, but I remember you being a winner last time. Hope you do it again! Love, Carolyn
