Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The summer's long days close earlier Night comes more quickly, a chill is in the air. You can almost smell the snow soon to come. The trees change their summer greens For the colorful hues of fall. Orange, yellow, red and a bit of golden brown thrown in. Soon these leaves are dropping down Covering the dying grass with a blanket of color. Summer's flowers go to seed, then fly with the wind. Planting themselves among the grass and soil Ready to sprout again at the coming of the spring rain. The fall seasons blooms awake, although their lives are short lived Trying to shine and catch the eye before their time here ends. Crisp moonlit nights and golden harvest days Sun's light still bright, but the warmth diminished. Under the blanket of leaves, young mice scurry about The adults in a frenzy to store food for the approaching winter. Meals to sustain their strength and hope to live until the spring. I walk along a wooded path, my senses come alive. Inhale the smells of autumn's chilly night Anticipate the cold winds and snows to come, Contemplate the way I feel as I go on my way. Enjoy my private time, relax, everything is fine.
