Arrival In America
My Father came to America
In Nineteen Twenty-One
A journey long, from Hungary
he was the first born son
A dozen brothers and sisters
would follow through the years
The first thing learned was English
then "Swearing-in" brought cheers
That meant you're now a Citizen
(at eight years old, how grand)
To Pledge Allegiance to our Flag
that's how you make your stand
You have to be from somewhere else
before your heart will sing
It's gratitude, not "you owe me"
you'll work for everything
He found out you don't get to choose
God takes you when it's time
Age 33 two boys three girls
Yes He was in his prime
I never got to know him
before he went to heaven
I didn't even understand
til I was past eleven
I spent my young years wishing
for a Dad to call my own
I'd hope and pray most every day
so I wouldn't be alone
Grown up, we raised a family
and it never left my mind
Inside me almost every day
God spared me I would find.....
