Angst of a Struggling Poet

Sometimes I struggle to write a poem. Frankly it's really hard to do 'em, With the meter and rhyme, I do think it's a crime To write poems to rule, not what moves 'em.

Love rhyme - makes for an automatic rhythmic flow. There's a lot to be said for the freewheeling free verse, too, where great feelings and images come cascading like water falling of a cliff - sprays, torrents, side streams, seeps, cloudy mists - you can even hear the sounds Poetry comes from the heart, from feeling. Technique follows. Enjoy, Jan, and keep writing.

If that is the way you feel, then that's the way you should write. To rhyme or not to rhyme, that is the question!

You're correct, it must come from heart. Everything I do has some form of Rhyme. I love Masnavi (Persian Style) which is a spiritual couplet . I also write Ghazal which is a rather complicated rhyme with its own set of rules. You're welcome to check them out. Pashang

Thank you, PS, for the encouragement. When it comes to poetry, I am not a purist. I write mostly from the heart rather than by the mind applying strict rules of poetry. But I do love the rhyme and the rhythm and the wonderful play of words that the masters come up with.
