An Unsolved Ambiguous Mystery

She seared the defendant on the witness stand with a derogatory look. "What do you mean, you’re not guilty ? Let’s see what it says in the book! ..Murder: the unlawful killing of another human being with malice aforethought“. She pronounced the words slowly for effect. She slammed the book shut, turned towards the jury staring as if in pain standing erect… “No more questions, your Honor”. This prosecuting attorney wanted the jury to convict the defendant of murder. She proved beyond a reasonable doubt it was premeditated, and to expound further, She proved there was plenty of motive to say the least. That became plain as the evidence was released. The murdered victim, if he had lived, would have caused the defendant A loss of financial gain, Not to mention major inconvenience and possible emotional pain. The defendant, it was proven, had hired an assassin, Making the defendant, she argued, no less guilty, Around his neck the crime’s noose must be fastened.’ The jury was out and deliberated for just a little while. When they returned with a guilty verdict, the attorney’s face creased into a victorious smile. The court was adjourned and the prisoner bound. The team toasted the attorney at O’Malley’s and celebrated with drinks all around. Satisfied that justice was once again served and proud that she had done her portion, She meditatively… drove slowly home, and scheduled herself …. an abortion. Author's note ; Dedicated to our youngest and most promising friends and lovers. I speak for all our defenseless and mute babies "aborted" one million strong in the USA alone yearly when I say, there is no greater mystery to me than that which exists in the dichotomy and verbal engineering present in the words "abortion" and "murder". God bless us all with prudence, wisdom and love for all His children. His Mercy is great and will lovingly forgive and envelope all of us who ask for it who may have made this mistake in the past. Thank you for reading this my friends.

A great mystery indeed Robert. How people can view the taking of a life of a helpless baby as the mother's right to choose. Congratulations on your win. Love, Joyce

OH, thanks for the footnote, I was so confused what this was about. So "she" was the attorney who had been part of the case then! I was thinking of something famous but it ended up to be a mystery of human conscience. Very interesting way to take it! congrats on your win.

This is not only an incredible poem, Rob, but it casts light on the "confusion" by some as to whether abortion is murder. I was raised Catholic and I think there are better alternatives -- adoption being one of the best options. Great twist at the end. Congratulations on your big win in the mystery contest! Love, Carolyn

Our alien overlords will not be happy about this. They're hungry on their home planet, and want every one of us fattened up and ready to deepfry. This is just my quirky sense of humor talking. I hope I haven't offended you.
