An Empty Glass
An Empty Glass
An empty glass sitting in the sink
Have you seen one; does it make you think?
Who put it there and what did they drink?
That goes through my mind, an empty glass in the sink.
Why a single glass, who drinks alone?
Why not wash it out or is nobody home?
It looks lonely sitting there waiting to have a wash
All cold and naked, and not even the smell of squash
Who put it there in the sink all alone?
I washed the dishes, everyone, before I left my home.
No one has been in they are all still at work
I cleaned up everything the dishes I did not shirk.
An empty glass not dirty, but waiting to be clean,
Is someone watching me, but not willing to be seen.
I look around there is no one there I am sure I am alone,
Perhaps I left it on purpose for company in my home.
Maybe I liked being needed by my family one and all,
Now they are gone and independent maybe I need on them to call.
An empty glass makes me think I’m not alone with just a sink
Maybe they still need me but now in different ways
And I’m sick of dishes, so I'll put this glass away.
