Author's Notes: This poem, entitled: "An Autumn Portrait of Beauty" is a Rhyme verse I wrote describing the radiant beauty of a quite spacious and picturesque country scene behind the home of a former classmate of mine who lives in the mid-West in the United States. I was immediately inspired to write this poem based on the beautiful vision that came to my mind when I saw the picture she provided to me highlighting the verdant countryside behind her home that was so splendidly arrayed with a large green pond, surrounded by a number of lovely trees with all sorts of autumn colors and falling leaves scattered about on a vast expanse of grass. This is the palpable vision that compelled me to write this particular verse oriented toward the late Autumn season. (Gary Bateman - November 6, 2015) (Rhyme)

An Autumn Portrait of Beauty On this quite beautiful and most radiant Autumn day, I marvel at Mother Nature’s smile of silent pulchritude, As I make a loving glance at such luscious scenery today, In this country scene—a glorious gift of God’s certitude! The trees and their fallen amber leaves adorn this Earth, As a shimmering reflection pervades from a green pond, Of Nature’s wonder with colors arrayed in a sacred rebirth, Affirming God’s heavenly promise true and His holy bond! This view of trees, grass, leaves, and a shadow near the pond, Captures the glory and grace from God’s colored-palette a true, That affirms His desire of rendering this beauty from beyond, And I thank Him from my heart with joy and blessings so true! Yes, God doth paint this world with such love for all to see, His Autumn portrait here is of unparalleled artistry and grace, That I interpret as a heavenly-made moment for all of us to be, As I reaffirm the beauty of Nature’s gift in this wondrous place! (Right now, I just happen to be down in Stuttgart, Germany for this entire week.) I will take a look at your and Liam's new work. Looks like I will be working pretty much on select prose writes during June that I'm planning for inclusion in my new second book planned for release. I'll be in touch with Liam again when I return to Northern Germany. Best Wishes Red . . . Gary

Hello Vera!! Thanks so much for your very gracious comments here on this tribute to my former classmate. (I actually wrote this poem specific based on a very lovely color picture she posted on Facebook of the country area immediately behind her new home.) I managed to capture a very effective "word picture" for her in this poem for that very picture of hers. My classmate was overwhelmed with emotion when I sent a copy of this new poem to her via e-mail for her to review before I posted it to Poetry Soup. I know too that you and Peter love Nature very much. Ingrid and I certainly do too!! Thanks for the "7" too. Best Wishes to you and Peter from Ingrid and me!! Gary

WoW! Gary, you are such a phenomenal talent. You do wonders with that pen of yours. You have skilfully penned a beautiful portrait. I enjoy how you express your love for God by affirming his greatness. Gary when I visit you it's like I'm a student in the class room and you are the instructor. Great job! If I could rate this piece more than a SEVEN I would:-)Alexis

P.S. Alexis . . . You're right too, "God" is an important center point in many of my poems. Expressing one's love for God by affirming his greatness is indeed so important. Even in a number of "Dark Theme Writes" I've undertaken in the past, I usually try to employ and interject the heavenly goodness of light and the glory and majesty of the Almighty as that divine counterforce to Lucifer's world of darkness and evil. (I always like for the good guys to win!!) Cheers and Best Weekend Wishes, Gary

Hello Dear Alexis!! Gee Whiz -- you're making me blush a bit with your comments here . . . but I'm very grateful that you have that high-level of confidence in my writing. I happen to think your poetry is quite marvelous too!! In the end, whether one is a student or an instructor -- we all still learn from one another!! (I've found since I've been writing short stories too for my planned second book and have plans now too for a future "novel," that all of this has certainly enhanced my work as a poet too!! It's all good!!) Thanks for the SEVEN!! I must drop by to see what you're up to with your latest writes. Best!! Gary

Wonderful poem and tribute my friend! Nature's beauty far surpasses its "survival of the fittest" brutality. It truly does represent the hand of the One God. A7
