An Angel Came

An angel came while I was just down the block driving home that day at three o’clock. Your sisters, brother and niece insisted that I get out of the house for a little while, they treated me as if I was a child. They spoke of the 24/7 vigil as if it had taken hold of me and over time had sapped and drained away my energy. all thought it better if I wasn’t there when you chose to leave. If only they knew how I longed to sit beside your bed and be the very last one to hold your hand and kiss your head just as the angel came. Hospice said you waited until I wasn’t there at the moment of your unending love and care but nothing held or holds back the tears. An angel came and whispered in my ear that you had shed your very last tear and all the pain and suffering had found an end. . I understand but saddened too, that those last minutes, I was not with you when the angel came.
