Alone

Coming to my dwelling place for a moment of rest No 'sweet thing' to welcome me, no soft caress upon my chest No sweet scent from her perfume No sexy lingerie in my bedroom No stimulating conversation at the dinner table Listening to this, one may say that this is just a foolish fable Oh, how I beg to differ, for the heart and reality are two of life's great truths Living day by day in the 'concrete jungle' is more and more living proof I could indulge like so many and have someone here But why? Why play this senseless game of LOVE, knowing she is not my DEAR No sweet embrace, no beautiful face Only memories, as I seek refuge from this 'rat race' Only stirring echoes from a lovely, romantic past Living today alone far from her sensual touch, sometimes wondering, how long will this last? Mmmh! Silly me, NOW is a reality that must BE It's not about her, it's not about them, it's not even about me This is an inevitable time that has come And only dear God knows how long it will run So, ALONE is how I must live Until my heart acknowledges the love I must give Alone, alone but not lonely!
