A Whispered Lie

A scarlet sun sinks as daylight departs,
staining clouds like a thousand bleeding hearts.
And the death of day spurs on Night's attack
as dusk silently colors the sky black.
No matter what you say or how you feel,
reality somehow seems surreal.
And a rush of tears drowns your heart mid-beat
as abandoned dreams crumble in defeat.
Disbelief and anger rush to compete
as the new moon hides and the stars retreat.
And unable to free your heart of dread,
it's crushed under the weight of what was said.
Rays of a rising sun pierce the night sky
fulfilling promise of a whispered lie.
But today won't let tomorrow begin
when yesterday's shadow lingers within.
Your instinct says leave, and yet, you refuse,
except for hope; you've nothing more to lose.
Invested in a love you felt would last,
your future's firmly rooted in the past.
