A Sympathy Look

If you are reading this poem after I am dead My one question for you is, “Why” I begged you to read these while I was still here And you hardly even gave it a try Now that I am no longer alive You give it a sympathy look Well, I absolve you of that obligation You can close the cover of this book Think about the things you would do for others Of your loved ones when they are dead And do those things for them now While they are still walking around instead I know it is easier to express your emotions To somebody buried in the ground But saying those things while looking in their eyes Is better for you and them, I’ve found But, if you are reading this poem after I am dead Please know that I do forgive you Because by not reading this poem while I was still alive You couldn’t know what you were supposed to do

I agree with your poem we must let them know we care now and not after they are gone. Wise advice. My husband or sons do not come and look at my poems unless I ask for advice nor do most of my friends. love what your poems says. love phyl

It would be nice if people were more interested in you alive, than dead. I like how you absolve them of caring, but at the same time, shouldn't you put it out there, so that they can choose to look at your work or not? lots of people know I write but don' t come on here to read my work and it saddens me, because I want them to care and I have put it out there. my husband only reads my work when I ask his opinion. I've never known him to come on here and just look at my work on his own.

Joe, you make a very good point here, and I agree with you. It's so important to let the loved ones, the important people in our lives know how we feel while they are alive. After they are gone, it's too late. I enjoyed reading your poem. Love, Kim
