A Sympathy Look
If you are reading this poem after I am dead
My one question for you is, “Why”
I begged you to read these while I was still here
And you hardly even gave it a try
Now that I am no longer alive
You give it a sympathy look
Well, I absolve you of that obligation
You can close the cover of this book
Think about the things you would do for others
Of your loved ones when they are dead
And do those things for them now
While they are still walking around instead
I know it is easier to express your emotions
To somebody buried in the ground
But saying those things while looking in their eyes
Is better for you and them, I’ve found
But, if you are reading this poem after I am dead
Please know that I do forgive you
Because by not reading this poem while I was still alive
You couldn’t know what you were supposed to do
