A Six Year Old's September 11

Daddy, there’s a hole in the big blue sky Daddy, there’s a hole can you tell me why Daddy, where are those buildings that made up eleven Will all those people go to heaven? Daddy why does mommy hide her eyes When she talks on phone about last goodbyes She says everything is gonna be okay but she won’t let us go outside to play. And Daddy why do you sit in my room at night All alone in the chair without the light?

Aiyah, Thank you so much. We lost some very dear friends on 9/11 and as adults could not fully comprehend what was happening. I tried to imagine how my six year old twins (at the time) were processing what we tried to, but could not shield them from. And yes, we watched them sleep and hugged them tighter.
